After two years of intense activity and learning, the Ethos Foundation’s Building Sustainable Small Business (BSSB) program wrapped up in February 2010. The program worked with well over 120 small business operators in South East Queensland’s Scenic Rim Region and Gold Coast City through interactive workshops, a comprehensive Mentoring, Training and Leadership program, the BSSB website which was a hub of information and small business resources, the Sustainable Scenic Rim Business Directory, and networking and strategic planning gatherings. BSSB was evaluated and monitored throughout its life and in March 2010, Coordinator Jan McGregor and Facilitator Sally MacKinnon wrote a report that detailed all participant feedback. The report presented the next steps already underway between Scenic Rim Regional Council and Ethos as a result of the BSSB program and also put forward a key recommendation for the development of an integrated, holistic Local Living Economy strategy and program for the Scenic Rim Region and surrounding local government areas.
