Dick Marriott Biodynamic Workshop Ethos FoundationAfter a sell-out workshop in November 2007, local Beechmont farmer Dick Marriott is set to host another one-day workshop about healthy soils and biodynamic growing at his biodynamic farm on the Beechmont Plateau on Saturday March 15.

This hands-on, practical workshop teaches people how to cultivate and improve the soil naturally, make rich and healthy biodynamic compost and understand the basics of biodynamic principles. Attendees will be eligible to join the Biodynamic Gardeners Association Inc.

The workshop offers a great opportunity for keen gardeners to learn more about biodynamic growing and for people looking to create an income from growing and selling organic produce locally, to learn from someone who is already doing it.

Biodynamics is an advanced organic growing method in which no artificial fertilisers or chemical sprays are used. Biodynamic gardeners and farmers use a range of methods including biological activator preparations to powerfully enliven soils and plants. The result is extremely tasty, nutritious and long-lasting food.

Dick Marriott is an experienced biodynamic farmer and has taught biodynamic workshops in South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. He is partnering with the Ethos Foundation to run this workshop again given its huge popularity in 2007.

The workshop is part of a series of Beechmont workshops over the next few months that focus on sustainable food and farming initiatives. This pilot project is designed to build community capacity in sustainable farming in the Beechmont community.

The workshop will run from 9.30am until 4pm on Saturday March 15 2008. The cost including lunch is $50 single and $80 a couple. Dick Marriott’s farm is 15 minutes drive from Canungra, about 30 minutes from Mt Tamborine and less than 45 minutes from Beaudesert.
