Between July 2010 and March 2011, the Ethos Foundation is facilitating the Scenic Rim’s first ClimateSmart Business Cluster with the help of a Queensland Government grant. With a focus on tracking and reducing food miles by using more local, regional and even homegrown food, 16 accommodation businesses are working with Ethos to reduce their carbon footprints and support the regional food economy.
The Cluster was formed as a result of the Biggest CARBONLOSER Challenge tourism industry program, hosted by industry association Scenic Rim Escapes and facilitated by Ethos early in 2010. Many of those participating businesses expressed a high interest in local food and began to focus on increasing their use of local food and shortening their food supply chains.

After two years of intense activity and learning, the Ethos Foundation’s Building Sustainable Small Business (BSSB) program wrapped up in February 2010.
The program worked with well over 120 small business operators in South East Queensland’s Scenic Rim Region and Gold Coast City through interactive workshops, a comprehensive Mentoring, Training and Leadership program, the BSSB website which was a hub of information and small business resources, the Sustainable Scenic Rim Business Directory, and networking and strategic planning gatherings.

Biggest CARBONLOSER Challenge |

The Scenic Rim Region is home to the first-ever tourism industry CARBONLOSER Challenge between March and June 2010.
Tourism industry network Scenic Rim Escapes is coordinating the Biggest CARBONLOSER Challenge for businesses (particularly tourism-related but all are welcome) and households. The Challenge kicks off on March 24 at 10am at the Logan and Albert Hotel Beaudesert.

Ethos Develops Sustainable Scenic Rim Website |

In April 2010, the Ethos Foundation will launch the Scenic Rim Region’s own community and business sustainability website in partnership with Scenic Rim Regional Council. During early 2010, Council and Ethos have worked closely together to design and develop Sustainable Scenic Rim, the region’s own sustainability website for households, businesses, communities and schools and young people.
