Art & Ecology

Arts & Ecology supports the work of the arts in examining and addressing social and environmental concerns in an interdisciplinary arena.

The program is informed by the understanding of ecology as the study of relationships between an individual and their cultural, social, political, economic and natural environments, and by the belief that the arts can play a central role in providing creative insights into the challenges facing contemporary society.

Arts and Ecology seeks to explore these relationships through their intersections and diversity to deepen our understanding of the changing world around us, and develop meaningful responses to it.

The artist is an important figure for his ability to perceive paths where only prescribed approaches or disciplines have previously segregated creativity and science; meaning and mechanics. Such a perspective is increasingly valuable in our society where collaborative interdisciplinary work may well hold the key to integrating our understanding of ourselves, our culture and the natural world around us.
